The Lifestyle and Mental Health Crises of the Youth with COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a mental health crisis that has impacted people all over the world. Lockdowns have forced millions indoors, upturned daily lives and routines, and altered the school-education experience for a generation. The COVID crisis has tightened the link between depression and lifestyle habits – the association between disruptions to physical activity and mental health has never been clearer.

One demography has been susceptible to these non-physical impacts of COVID-19 in particular: young people. The upheaval of daily lives including a lack of physical contact with peers, seclusion at home, and for some, the loss of financial and emotional security has increased in youths the risk of suffering from mental health disorders.

The patient came from a humble background. Through crowd funding, funds could be raised for her surgery! She was successfully operated by the Neurosciences team on 3rd January 2022 at Sagar Hospitals, Jayanagar & is now able to lead a happy life with a bright future ahead. Resilience – Leading and finding the way in times of crisis

Leaders in health must be ambidextrous, balancing present opportunities and short-term priorities with the exploring of future opportunities. An insight by Ishiqa Multani, President, Sagar Group of Hospitals

2022 is nearly upon us and the COVID-19 pandemic is still not over. The US finds itself in a fifth wave in spite of having a more than adequate stockpile of vaccines. Europe heads into a difficult winter with many EU nations finding peaks in COVID-19 cases and the German health minister making a bleak declaration that by the end of winter, Germans “will either be vaccinated, recovered, or dead.” Austria has entered a lockdown for the unvaccinated.

1,000 gallstones in techie’s abdomen – highest number of stones removed from a patient’s body.

A 32-year-old techie suffering from severe pain in his abdomen was found to have more than 1,000 gallstones -- hardened deposits within the fluid in the gallbladder-- in his body. Doctors suspect a sedentary lifestyle and a hectic work schedule could have been led to the growth of the stones.

Dr Kumar Parth, Chief Surgical Gastroenterologist, Sagar Hospital, Kumarswamy Layout, said the stones had blocked the bile duct. “If the gallstones were not removed from bile duct, it could have resulted in jaundice, acute polycystic disease, and maybe a rupture of the gallbladder. First, we did an endoscopy and removed the stone that was stuck in the bile duct. The next day, the patient had to undergo a surgery for 2.5 hours so that we could remove all the stones.” This is the highest number of stones we have removed from a patient’s body,” he added.
