The Department of Pediatric Surgery is staffed by highly trained expert team of surgical professionals specialized in the treatment of surgical conditions affecting children - from new born to adolescents.
The Department functions in conjunction with department of Pediatrics and Neonatology to provide comprehensive care to the neonate, infant and child. All surgical conditions in children right from birth are managed in this department.
This includes Congenital Disorders (birth disorders), Infective, Traumatic and Neoplastic conditions, which need surgery such as Cleft Lip and Palate, Anomalies of the Anorectum, Kidney, Ureter and Bladder, Hypospadias, Anomalies of the Gastrointestinal System and so on. These surgeries include both the conventional open surgery as well as endoscopic (keyhole) surgeries of the Chest and Abdomen. The services offered include Neonatal Surgery, Pediatric Urology, Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Laparoscopic Surgery.
Some of the major surgeries performed in this department include state-of-the-art new born surgery, minimally invasive surgery (Thoracoscopic and Laparoscopy), abdominal, thoracic, urologic and endoscopic surgery, epilepsy, headache, acute neurological emergencies like stroke, neuro infections, brain and spine surgeries.
The department is supported by excellent pediatric and neonatal intensive care facilities as well as radiology and diagnostic facilities. It has top of range EMG, EEG and Evoke potential equipment apart from advanced neuron imaging facility with inter-operative monitoring during brain surgery.
The Pediatric OPD is specially design to create an ambience suites to the special needs of children and has play areas, feeding rooms and so on. Day care services are also provided to shorten hospital stay.
